Short Guy's Guide to Style

Knowing how to dress for your body type is the key to honing your personal style. Good style involves accentuating your strengths and minimizing the appearance of your weaknesses. For the short man, this means strategically manipulating how others perceive his stature. Stylinks has listed some tips for the vertically challenged man to keep in mind when shopping for clothing:

  • Wear one color: A shirt and pants in the same color will prevent obvious breaks in your natural frame, and as a result can produce the illusion of height.

  • Never wear blazers or cardigans with more than three buttons; these are designed for taller men and will make you look very short.

  • V-neck T-shirts and sweaters will make your torso look longer.

  • Opt for square-toed shoes: on a short man, long pointy shoes or really bug bulky ones will make you look less like a professional and more like a joker. Stick with a square toe.

  • Avoid big prints: On smaller bodies, giant prints will overwhelm. Keep your prints proportionate to your body by choosing smaller prints, such as micro-checks.

  • Choose a slimmer or narrow necktie: Large ties should be avoided, because they will make your body seem disproportionate by comparison.
